A twelvemonth did his darksome mind

He formed a wily, plausive tale,

The horses stood before the gate,

Meanwhile each ruffian surly sat,

Love had o’ercome within his breast

For blows fell, and the kindly one

Then he who lived led them away,

How can I write the mournful end—
